MPA Camp January 10th

Parents and Students,
I hope everyone is having a great week. I know with the semester not even finished yet and Christmas right around the corner it is hard to think about next spring but I want to let everyone know about a change to our calendar for January.
To help us prepare for our state Music Performance Assessment in February. We will be hosting a MPA camp on Saturday January 10th from 12:00-9:00pm. All members of the band are required to be at the camp. Unless they follow the proper protocol for an excused absence. The camp will be hosted at the band room and dinner will be provided.
The purpose of this camp is to get the band off on the right foot for our MPA performance. We will have clinicians for each instrument to help the students throughout the day and give them a lot of individual attention. Due to the expense to the band program and also how much we will accomplish in one day it is crucial that all students are present on this day. If there is a school excused conflict please let me know ASAP. A child having to work is not an excuse since I am announcing it so far in advance.  I am greatly looking forward to the spring and this opportunity for the students.

Concert Week Announcements!!!

Parents and Students,
It is hard to believe that we are already at our Christmas concert. It seems like only yesterday we were starting band camp. This week we have two different events, our Christmas Concert Tuesday December 9th, also our Childersburg Christmas parade Thursday December 11th. Here is the itinerary for both events Christmas Concert Week.
Please keep in mind that all Band fees are due by December 20th or a $40 late fee will be added to any outstanding accounts. 
All Parents, Students, members of the community, relatives and friends are welcome to our Christmas Concert this Tuesday. The Concert will start at 7:30 and will feature our Beginning Band, 8th Grade Band, and High School Concert Band. These students have been working incredibly hard to prepare this concert for our community and I am sure you will be impressed. So come start your Christmas season with the Childersburg Band featuring all of those great Christmas hits and some new ones!

I hope everyone has had a great Thanksgiving. Its time to get back to school for that short stretch until Christmas break. The band only has a view more dates for this fall semester. Here are our announcements for the week:

• This Tuesday December 2^nd is the Sylacauga Christmas parade. The parade starts at 6:30 in downtown Sylacauga. Students will need to report to the band room at 4:30.  Here is the itinerary: Sylacauga Christmas Parade
• Our Christmas concert is next Tuesday December 9^th at 7:30pm. Students will need to report to the band at 5:00.
• The Childersburg Christmas parade is next Thursday at December 11^th.

Preparing for Christmas!!!

Parents and Students,

First off I would like to thank all those who made this marching season such a success. From the parents who volunteered their time in the concession stand, to the helpers who carried all of our equipment, and finally to our band students who represented our community with pride and dignity, thank you for all you do. We have officially made the switch from marching season to concert season to prepare for our concert on December 9th!!! Here are our announcements for the week:

• Our November Band Parent Meeting will be this Thursday at 6:00pm. We will reflect on this football season and prepare for the following few months. 
• Parents please keep in mind that all Band Fees and Auxiliary Fees must be paid no later than December 20th. Otherwise a $40 dollar late fee will be added. 
• Please plan to attend our Christmas Concert on December 9th. Admission is Free.

Play Off Week

Parents and Students,
The final game of the regular season is done and now it is time to prepare for playoffs. The playoffs are a unique chance for the Childersburg band to go and represent our community in a part of the state that we don't usually visit. Here is the itinerary for our trip this friday: Play Off Game. You will notice that we are leaving before school ends we are also returning very late.
Finally our fruit order will be delivered to the band room the week of November 17th. Please be prepared to pick up your child's order when it is delivered. I hope you have a great week.

Lincoln Week/Senior Night!

Parents and Students,
I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Its hard to believe that it is time for the final regular season game of the season. This week we will not only start our preparation for the playoffs but also we will recognize and celebrate our seniors contributions to the Childersburg community and band. Here are the announcements for the week:

• Senior Night is this Thursday. Seniors please be on the look out for information about the night early this week. Parents are encouraged to be present and will have two free tickets for the game.
• To reward our students for their hard work during the football season the band will try to take a Charter bus to our first playoff game in Andalusia Alabama. To help fund the $1400 bus trip each students is asked to bring in $20 by Wednesday for the trip. Otherwise we will take a regular school bus.
• This Tuesday the March Fourth Marching Band will perform at the Ritz Theatre in Talladega. Several Childersburg student will be performing with them. The concert is at 7:30pm.
• The game this week is on Thursday. Here is the itinerary: Lincoln Game. Due to Senior night our report time will be thirty minutes early. Students will need to report at 5:00pm.
• Due to the game on Thursday we will have rehearsal on Tuesday from 3:30-5:00pm.

Homecoming Week!!!

Parents and Students,
I hope everyone has had a safe and enjoyable long weekend. It is now time to start one of our busiest/ best weeks of the year homecoming week! Below you will find several announcements about this weeks activities:

• Thank you to all those parents and students who sold fruit. Do to your hard work the band was able to reach its goal and raise over $2000 dollars for the band program.  This will go to covering are general band expenses as well as help prepare us for the future with new instruments and materials.
• As you will see in the itinerary. At this time I am planning on have two rehearsal this week. Tomorrow afternoon at our usual time 3:30-5:00 and also on Thursday from 3:30-4:15. There is a chance our schedule will change and if it does I will let the students know tomorrow. 
• This Thursday is our homecoming parade, if we do not have rehearsal students will need to report to the old school grounds in full uniform no later than 4:15pm. All students are expected to march in the parade with the band.

Leeds Week!!!

Parents and Students,
First and foremost a want to take a small opportunity to brag about our students. This weekend the Childersburg Band participated in the Chief Ladiga Marching Competition and did an outstanding job. We did not walk away with the superiors we had hoped for but standing on that field Saturday afternoon I could not have been more proud of the performance and work ethic of these students. They definitely represented Childersburg with a lot of pride and class and nothing makes me more proud as a band director.
Now it is time to prepare for our next goals. Which includes supporting our team into the play-offs and preparing for our christmas concert and MPA in the spring. I can not wait for this next chapter for this year. Here are several announcements for this week:

• Fruit Orders are Due Tomorrow. All fruit orders are due tomorrow so we can make sure to have the order in as soon as possible. 
• This week we will not rehearse on Monday or Tuesday, we will rehearse Thursday to prepare for our game on Friday.
• Friday we travel to Leeds High School. Here is the itinerary: Leeds. 
• You will notice there are two options for our trip Friday. That is because as an incentive for the fruit fundraiser I offered a trip to the Outlet Shops at Grand River if the band was able to meet our fundraising goal of $5000. I will know no later than tuesday if we will be taking that option and will post the results here. If this happens I will also be looking for Chaperones for that trip.

Competition Day!!!

After a great performance last night the band is on its way to the Chief Ladiga Marching Competition. We are ready to represent our community! Go tigers!!!

Marching Competition Week!!!

Parents and Students,
The week is finally here. The Chief Ladiga Marching Competition is this saturday. Keeping that in mind it is very important that the entire band is at each rehearsal this week and at our competition on saturday. Here are a couple more reminder for our competition this saturday:

• The marching competition is an all day event. Students are expected to stay after their performance until the awards ceremony
• Some suggested Items to bring

• Sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses)

• At the competition students will be allowed to walk around the stadium. Under no circumstances are students allowed outside the stadium unless they are escorted by Mr.Rogers

Holtville Game

Parents and Students,
I hope everyone is having a restful and relaxing Sunday. I know the outcome of the game on friday was not what we wanted but my hat goes off to the band. Not only were our students a class act throughout the game but they had a great performance Friday night, and I am happy with where we are leading into our competition in a couple weeks. This week we play Holtville which will be another division game for our Childersburg Tigers. The band will leave the school at 4:45 for this game. Here are our announcements for the week:

Sylacauga Week!!!

Parents and Students,
Sylacauga Week is here. I know the students are looking forward to a great game on Friday against our rivals down the road. I would like to thank all of those that have signed up to work this weeks concession stand. However we could use all of the help we can get so if you have not signed up for a concession stand please consider coming and helping this Friday. Here are the announcements for the week:

• Don't forget about the Fruit Fundraiser. All fruit money and order forms are due on October 13. Each student is asked to sell at least $150 dollars in fruit.
• On Saturday October 11 the Childersburg Band will compete in the Chief Ladiga Marching Competition. The students are getting very excited and we would not be able to compete in this event without the help of our band parents. That being said if you would like to Chaperone for us on this date please send me an email (JRogers@tcboe.org) no later than friday.

Childersburg Bye Week

Good Afternoon,
First and foremost thank you to all those parents who helped in the concession stand friday night, as well as to those who attended our booster meeting. Without your help and guidance the Childersburg Band would be at a great loss.
Believe it or not even with a bye week this week for football the Childersburg Band is as busy as ever. Here is our list of announcements for this week:

• Monday starts our Bands Fruit Fundraiser. Students will have one month to fundraise and are encouraged to sell at least $150 dollars in fruit to help with there Fundraising requirement. All money and forms are due on October 13th.
• Tuesday September 16th the band will be traveling to Munford High School for the Talladega County Band Directors Association's Marching Band Showcase. Here is the Marching Showcase Itinerary. Since our uniforms will be getting dry cleaned due to the rain on friday we will be wearing our band shirt and khaki shorts with tennis shoes.
• Friday September 19th the band will be traveling during school to both elementary schools to host a pep rally. Here is the Elementary Pep Band Itinerary. Students will need money for lunch.
• We do not have a game or rehearsal on Friday.

Picture Day!!!

Tomorrow is Picture Day for the Tiger Band. Students need to be dropped off at 3:00 at the band room. All band students must have their blue band shirt, and black socks. If your child has not purchased shoes yet he will be provided with some for the day. Guard need to wear their band shirt, khaki shorts, ankle height socks, and tennis shoes. See everyone then.

BAND CAMP IS FINISHED AND TIGERFEST!!!!

The 2014 Childersburg Marching Tiger Band is up and rolling for this football season after a great band camp!!!! Thanks to all that made it possible and a HUGE thank you to all the students. With out your hard work we would not have had such a successful camp. I can't wait to see what this band can do this year!
Now its time to show the Childersburg Community what we learned at tigerfest (Click here for itinerary). I'll see the band at 6:30 at the concession stand and I hope to see all the parents at 7:20 in the stadium for the 2014 Childersburg Tiger Band's first performance!!!

Rehearsal cancelled today and Helping tomorrow!!!

Due to plumbing problems at the High School we will not be having band this afternoon. WE WILL HAVE BAND TOMORROW. I apologize for the inconvenience but the band has been working hard and I have no doubt that we will be ready for Tigerfest on Saturday. We hope to see everyone there.
Also the band boosters will be cleaning the band concession stand tomorrow starting at 2:00pm. All parents are welcome to help. This does count towards the three required concession stands to help with your students' fundraising requirement.

I hope everyone is having a great summer and had a safe 4th. Its hard to believe that the summer is halfway over but I am excited for everything coming up this year. The band room is clean and ready to go and I am pleased to say we have new music stands!
Finally I just wanted to send everyone a reminder about our Band orientation meeting this Thursday July 10th at 5:00pm in the band room. This meeting if for all students planning on being a part of the Marching Band next year. If you are on vacation or not able to attend the meeting please let me know and we can schedule a meeting time during band camp. I can't wait to see everyone then and I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer.

Summer Announcements!!!

Parents and Students,

I hope everyone is enjoying the start to their summer. After another great year everyone deserves a little bit of R&R. Up at the band office I am in full swing preparing for another great year for out marching program. Keeping that in mind here are a few dates that I want to make sure everyone is aware of:

• We have a band booster meeting scheduled on June 19^th at 4:00pm to start planning for the concession stand next year as well as band camp.
• Leadership Camp and Drumline Campe are coming up! Leadership Camp is on June 19^th and 20^th from 9-12 and 2-4. Drumline Camp is on June 19^th and 20^th from 1-4.
• We will have our beginning of the year band meeting on July 10^th at  5:00pm. All students are expected to be at this meeting with an adult. If you are unable to attend please contact the band office.
• Rookie Camp starts on July 21^st at 8:00am. Rookie Camp is for all members of the marching band who have not marched with the Childersburg Marching Band before.
• Full Band Camp starts on July 21^st at 2:00pm.

Band Banquet!!! and Band Calendar

Dear Parents and Students,

            May 16^th the Childersburg Band Boosters will be hosting our annual banquet for all members of the 2013-2014 Childersburg Marching Tiger Band and Concert Band. The Banquet is meant to be in appreciation for all those students hard work throughout the year as well as a special recognition for those senior and leadership members of the band.

            The banquet will be held at the Central Alabama Community College Event Hall. The hall will open at 6:00pm. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm followed by our award ceremony and special recognitions. Attire for the evening is semi-formal. Please RSVP by Thursday May 8^th.

            Students will be given one ticket for themselves to attend the event. Seniors will be given two tickets for their parents to attend their special recognition. Parents who have worked at least two concession stands will also receive a free ticket. If you would like to attend or if a student would like to bring a friend tickets can be purchased from the band office for $10. This is to help cover the food expense as well as venue costs. Tickets will be distributed the Monday of the event.

Band Booster Meeting May 1st @ 6:00

Due to the Jacksonville State Honor Band next week the Childersburg High School Band Booster Meeting has been changed to this Thursday May 1st at 6:00pm.

Band End of the Year Dates

Parents and Students,

Congratulations to the students for an outstanding concert last week, and thank you for all those that attended! The school year is quickly drawing to a close. Here are some important dates to remember for the band.

• Tomorrow we will be taking a field trip to both elementary schools to perform our spring concert. Students should wear the same uniform they did for Thursday night and will also need money for food on that day. Click for Itinerary
• This Tuesday and Thursday we will be having leadership clinics for those interested in Drum Major. Clinics are from 3:30-5:00
• All applications for students interested in section leader, Drum Major, or Band Captain are due this Friday.
• Next Tuesday-Thursday (May 6-8) we will be having our Auxiliary auditions; all paperwork and audition fees must be turned in no later than Tuesday May 6^th.
• Our Band Calendar for next year will be sent home this week. Parents please be on the lookout.
• Permission forms and Money for next years Band Camp Retreat to Opelika, AL for the Sounds of Summer DCI Show is due May 12^th.
• Lastly our Band Banquet to honor our seniors and all band members is on May 16^th at the Central Alabama Community College Banquet Hall. Students will receive their tickets the week of the Banquet. Parents if you would like to purchase a ticket to attend the cost is $10 per admission; tickets can be purchased in the band room until May 15^th. All Seniors will be given two tickets for their parents.

The Childersburg Concert Band and Childersburg Beginning Band did an outstanding Job tonight at their spring concert. Time to do it again tomorrow for some future band members. Same Uniform, Same Place, Different Time. Great Job!!!

Concert Week!!!

Parents and Students,

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Easter. This upcoming week is very exciting for the band and I just wanted to take a minute and review everything going on.

• Monday: Complete Concert Band Rehearsal 3:30-5:00 (attendance is mandatory and will be graded)
• Tuesday: Spring Concert Band Dress Rehearsal 3:30-5:00 for complete Concert Band and Beginning Band (attendance is mandatory and will be graded)
• Wednesday: All Bag Fundraiser Money is Due
• Thursday: Spring Concert (See Itinerary for details)
• Friday: 6^th Grade Students Concert 2:00pm (attire same as spring concert)

As you can see we have a lot going on this week. Along with this busy week next Monday we will be taking a field trip to Watwood Elementary and Childersburg Elementary to put on a concert for the school.

I hope to see everyone at our spring concert. The students have been working very hard and I really think this will be our best concert to date. Have a great remainder of your Sunday.

Band Announcements

Parents and Students,

I hope everyone had a nice restful spring break and is ready to make that final push till summer: The band has a lot of activities planned to finish out our year and I just wanted to take a moment to make sure everyone is aware of what is coming up:

• Last week we started our third and final fundraiser for the year. We will complete a bag sale. Student were sent home Wednesday with a brochure all money must be turned in on April 23^rd. I highly encourage all students to participate either to help with their fundraising requirement/band fees for this year or to prepare for band camp next year. Students will receive 40% of all profits sold onto their account and all of the money will go towards purchasing new music stands for the band room.
• There is a Band Booster Meeting this Thursday April 10^th at 6:00pm. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
• The band will be hosting open auditions for the drum line Tuesday April 8^th through Thursday April 10^th from 3:30-5:00pm. Auditions are open to all students in grades 8^th-12^th, Students should expect to attend all three days to learn all skills necessary to be a member of the drum line. You do not have to have any prior experience to attend auditions. If you are interested see Mr.Rogers in the band room for details.
• The Band Auxiliary Line will be having an informational meeting on Thursday April 17^th From 5:00pm-6:00pm for any 8^th-12^th grade students interested in participating in the color guard or majorette line for next year. To be considered you and a parent must be present at the meeting or schedule a conference before auditions. If you are interested see Mr.Rogers in the band room for details.
• For all students interested in trying out for Drum Major we will have a short meeting on Thursday April 17^th from 3:30-4:00 to review the audition process and requirements.
•  The Childersburg Band Programs Spring Concert will be Thursday April 24^th at 6:00pm. I hope to see everyone their for the bands last full performance of the year. The Students have been working very hard to prepare and it is guaranteed to be a wonderful concert.

A Message from our Band Booster President:

Hello Childersburg band parents,                                                                                                            March 31, 2014

First of all, I would like to thank each one of you for your help this year and look forward to working beside you for the rest of this year and next year. As some of you may know, it will be Childersburg’s honor to host the annual Talladega County honor band concert this weekend. It is tradition that we provide a hospitality room for all band directors on Friday during practices. I would like to ask for your help. If you can donate just ONE food item for this event, it will be greatly appreciated. Any finger foods would be great! The following items are examples of things that can be donated: A bag of chips or pretzels, a package of cookies, a package of snack cakes, a package of brownies, a container of chip dip, any type of drinks, etc…. If each parent donates just one item, this will be plenty to have in the hospitality room. Please send in all items by Thursday. Thank you so very much for your help.

Announcements This Week

Parents and Students,

I hope everyone has had a restful weekend. Here are the reminders for the week:

• –      Coosafest is this Saturday. The Band will perform at 11:00am students must be their at 10:15am. This is a required performance and will be considered our 9-week performance for the 3^rd 9 weeks. This counts for 20% of your overall grade in band.
• –      This Thursday we will have our monthly Band Booster meeting in the band room at 5:30pm. Any band parent is welcome and appreciated. We will have some light refreshments.
