MPA Trip Cancelled

Parents and Students,

I regret to inform everyone that due to weather we will not be able to participate in MPA (February 26th) this year. The students have been working hard but unfortunately do to the dates missed we will not be at a Performance level by the time MPA starts next week. We will however continue to prepare for our next Concert at Coosa Fest on March 15^th please come out and support us during this concert.

I am incredibly proud of our students and their hard work, and cannot thank you students enough for all of your efforts. It is such a joy to be your Band Director.

Band Booster Meeting Tomorrow

Reminder, tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 will be our rescheduled Booster Meeting all parents are welcome and encouraged to be there. I hope to see you then.

Band Parent Meeting This Thursday @ 5:00

Our Band Parent meeting that was scheduled for last Thursday has been rescheduled for this Thursday at 5:00 immediately following Band Rehearsal.

Also we will have after school rehearsal this Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to prepare for MPA.

Congrats to Tapanga!!!

Congrats to Tapanga Grogan for representing Childersburg at the 2014 Auburn University Honor Band. She did a fabulous job!!!

Announcements this Week with Another Snow Day.

Parents and Students,

I hope everyone had another safe and restful break. It is starting to look like this winter won’t ever stop messing with our plans up at the school. Here are a few updates for the coming weeks including changes to the schedule.

• The band did a wonderful job on Monday during the Talladega County Showcase. Many of the directors were very complimentary of the improvements we have made. While we still do have a ways to go but I am very proud of what we have accomplished.
• The weather over the past few week has now reached a level where our ability to perform for MPA is being jeopardized.  I have explained to the kids today but I have started to become worried about our ability to prepare for MPA, which is a week and a half away. This is to no fault of the students who have been working hard to prepare this music but the weather has managed to take away 9 vital rehearsals at this time, which makes preparing very difficult. As Director I do not plan on allowing the students to be put into a situation where I feel they are not prepared. That being said I am going to wait and see what progress we can make until Wednesday to make the call. I have explained to the band that sometimes life puts you in this kind of situation and it is up to how we respond that will determine what kind of band we are.
• We will have school rehearsal as planned next week. Rehearsal will be on Monday 2/17, Tuesday 2/18, and Thursday 2/20 from 3:30-5:00pm. With the weather from last week these rehearsals will be vital.
• M.P.A. is a week from next Wednesday 2/26. Chaperones are still needed for this trip.
• All Chocolate money must be turned in 3/3. I encourage all those that have sold a complete box to turn money in as soon as possible.
• Finally Congrats to Tapanga Grogan  who is currently participating in the Auburn University Honor Band!!!

Next Weeks Announcements

Parents and Students,

Here are a few final reminders about next week including The Showcase:

• Next Monday is the TCBDA Concert Band Showcase. Students will stay after school for a make-up rehearsal before we head to B.B. Comer. Pizza and water will be provided. The uniform for this performance is: Black Pants or Skirt, White Button down or blouse, Black Shoes, Black socks(if applicable), and a Black belt. We should return to the band room between 9:30-10:00.
• The Showcase is at B.B.Comer High School and starts at 5:00 o’clock. All parents are welcome. The students in our county have been working very hard and deserve a great audience.
• Next week we will have a Full Band Rehearsal Thursday after school from (3:30-5:00). Tuesday will be a Trumpet sectional.
• Only 25 more days to sell Chocolate!!!
• Congratulations to Christina Jackson for her participation in the University of Alabama Honor Band this weekend. She is representing the Childersburg Band and Childersburg High School very well. Also Congratulations to Tapanga Grogan who will attend the Auburn University Honor Band next week for the third time. Both of these students have worked very hard to prepare for these honor bands and are great ambassadors for our community.

Rehearsal cancelled today

Rehearsal today has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Be sure to practice your music tonight and be safe. Look on the blog tonight for a new schedule for Monday and next week.

Chocolate Fundraiser has Started

Parents and Students,

I am please to announce that the Band’s Chocolate Fundraiser has started this week. Students were sent home with a permission letter on Monday and as soon as this letter is returned they can start selling chocolate. Students will have until March 3^rd to sell as much chocolate as possible to help with their Fundraising requirement as well the Band fee for next year.

I would like to stress that students are responsible for all Box’s they check out. After March 3^rd any boxes of chocolate that are not turned in will be charged to each students account. If you would like extra Boxes please let me know. I hope you have  a great day.

Showcase Itinerary

The band had a great rehearsal yesterday. The music is really starting to shape up! Today we will rehearse our The march, Hands Across the Sea, and Zeal after school. Rehearsal After School This Week!!!

I would like to remind everyone that Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday of this week we will be having after school rehearsals from 3:30-5:00 to prepare for MPA. Not attending these rehearsals will affect a students grade and ability to participate in our MPA field trip. With the weather last week these rehearsals are crucial for preparing for our first performance next monday on February 10th.
